BEAMS, PhD, authored the first edition of Advanced Accounting in 1979 and knowingly revised his text during another six alterations and twenty five years while keeping an energetic practitioner and academic career at Virginia Tech where he rose to the position of Professor, retiring in 1995. Beams made his BS and MA degrees from the University of Nebraska, and a PhD in the University of Illinois. He printed actively in journals, such as The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance, Journal of Accountancy, The Atlantic Economic Review, Management Accounting, along with many others. He was a part of the American Accounting Association and the Institute of Management Accountants and served on committees for both organizations. Professor Beams passed in 2004; nonetheless, we continue to honor his contribution to the area and salute the effect he had with this particular volume.
