The opportunity to dissect a human body is a once in a lifetime experience. It is not possible to fully appreciate
the motivation of an individual to become a body don or, but most of us will try to imagine the circumstances that
lead to that decision . The value of the gift that has been given to you cannot be measured and can only be repaid
by the proper care an d use of the cadaver. The cadaver must be treated with the same respect and dignity that are usually reserved for the living patient. Upon entering the laboratory, you will find that the cadaver has been embalmed with a strong fixative. The whole body has been kept moist by wrappings or by submersion under preservative fluid. Desiccation of the cadaver will quickly render the specimen useless for study because once a part has been allowed to become dry, it can never be fully restored. Therefore, expose only those parts of the body that you are currently working on and moisten any exposed region s periodically through out the dissection . At the end of each dissection session , moisten the wrappings and the cadaver with wetting solution and properly cover the cadaver following the protocols of your laboratory.
