Grant’s Dissector is intended to provide dissection instructions and enough an atomical detail to help students
observe and recognize important relation ships revealed through dissection . The sixteenth edition of Grant’s Dissector aims to continue the strong tradition of previous editions as a regional dissection instruction manual but
has been rewritten to make the content more appropriate to today’s gross anatomy dissection courses. As curricula are constantly changing, the medications described here are intended to in crease the adaptability of Grant’s Dissector to a variety of dissection needs. The organization allow in the sixteenth edition has been modified to maintain consistency through out every chapter. The dissection units begin with a clearly labeled title followed by three key aspects to each dissection : an overview, the instructions, and a follow-up. Th e creation of the sixteenth edition of Grant’s Dissector would not have been possible with out the support and assistance from an in credible group of individuals. First and foremost, the sign i cant contributions of authors involved in the development of previous edition s of Grant’s Dissector must be recognized. I was not able to let PatTan k know directly how is work influenced me, but I want to express my desire to those who cherish him and his body of work that I will do my best to carry on his efforts in this text.
The opportunity to dissect a human body is a once in a lifetime experience. It is not possible to fully appreciate
the motivation of an individual to become a body don or, but most of us will try to imagine the circumstances that
lead to that decision . The value of the gift that has been given to you cannot be measured and can only be repaid
by the proper care an d use of the cadaver. The cadaver must be treated with the same respect and dignity that are usually reserved for the living patient. Upon entering the laboratory, you will find that the cadaver has been embalmed with a strong fixative. The whole body has been kept moist by wrappings or by submersion under preservative fluid. Desiccation of the cadaver will quickly render the specimen useless for study because once a part has been allowed to become dry, it can never be fully restored. Therefore, expose only those parts of the body that you are currently working on and moisten any exposed region s periodically through out the dissection . At the end of each dissection session , moisten the wrappings and the cadaver with wetting solution and properly cover the cadaver following the protocols of your laboratory.
