Although these may be regarded as the two endpoints of a continuum, it’s apparent that there are differing viewpoints on the part of authorities in responsibility and sustainability. At the end of the continuum are analysts that think the only means to accomplish a sustainable and socially aware society would be to establish and enforce regulations together with the governmental organizations to manage and enforce regulations.

In the opposite end are people who believe companies to be crucial associations for attaining sustainability and socially responsible results, and that believe it’s the obligation of stakeholders to ascertain the validity of companies’ actions. It’s most likely not true that any markets exist in either end of the continuum, but it’s apparent that the access to reliable information is crucial for any stakeholder to reassess the operation of the authorities or the companies. This publication presents a diverse set of papers which explore the problems that have to be considered, no matter which place a stakeholder takes.
